The Grants Associate provides specialized public and/or private awards support and finance/accounting-related services to support specific Business Units or Programs of the Conservancy. The Grants Service Network (GSN) within the Conservancy, provides guidance and administrative support for awards of funds to the Conservancy from United States federal, state, and local government agencies, multilateral agencies, and other national and local governments. The GSN also administers the Conservancy’s grants of funds to other entities, including those funded by a government agency, multilateral organization, other non-profit organization, private foundation, or private donor.

Position location is flexible.  This is a remote position open to all locations within the United States.  

The Grants Associate provides specialized services in public and/or private awards support or similar financial activities for a business unit or Grants Specialist Team. They are an expert in their area of specialization and conduct work in accordance with TNC policies and procedures, donor requirements and best practices in financial management. Specifically, this position provides a wide range of technical, administrative, and financial support to assigned staff for incoming public and/or private awards, outgoing sub-awards or grants, and contracts for services. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Assist with the set-up of budgets and assignment of costs in the public awards module. 
  • Conducting research on recorded expenses and recording accounting adjustments.
  • Assist in the production of financial reports and invoices.
  • Drafting outgoing subaward agreements or contracts for services using standard templates. May review internal and partner financial reports.
  • Ensures TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Assist with quality control review to ensure accuracy in documentation for audit purposes.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis
  • Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Experience using automated accounting systems.
  • Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
